Evangelos Marinakis stance set out as Nottingham Forest battle for Premier League survival

Head coach Steve Cooper says he continues to have “normal” communication with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

The Greek businessman released a statement backing his manager earlier this month, following the Reds’ defeat to Leeds United. Marinakis said he wanted to end speculation about the Welshman’s future, but warned results and performances needed to improve “immediately”.

Forest have not yet been able to turn their form around, with Sunday’s loss to Manchester United stretching their winless streak to 10 games. But Cooper maintains he is not thinking about his own personal circumstances as he focuses on trying to secure Premier League survival.

“I’ve had normal communications with the ownership - there’s Mr Marinakis, Miltos (Marinakis, the owner’s son), who has been around the training ground quite a lot recently, we’ve had the change with Ross (Wilson) and Filippo (Giraldi), and there’s other people like Kyriakos (Dourekas, director of football). All of that has been pretty normal," Cooper said, ahead of Saturday's clash with Liverpool.

“I don't find that difficult (ignoring talk about his future). What I find a challenge and difficult is when we don't get the results we want; not because of anyone's situation, certainly not mine, just about the team’s situation and trying to get the right results.

“The only frustration, disappointment, motivation is just around the team and trying to do the best work possible every single day and trying to get the best results. That's the only thing that matters to me.

“If we get that right, we give the supporters and the club what they deserve. A lot of good people work at the club and obviously it's a happier place when the team wins.

“Any individual sideshows with that don't even cross my mind because the football club is too important to me for that. That's just how it is.”

Wilson was appointed as chief football officer last week. He replaced Giraldi, who was sacked as sporting director after six months in the job.
