Evan Russell wins elite men's Canadian cyclocross title

Evan Russell at the 2023 Cyclocross World Championships.

Evan Russell (Global 6 Cycling) secured the elite men's title at the Canadian Cyclocross Championships on Saturday in Saanich, British Columbia.

Russell won solo with a 10-second margin ahead of runner-up Luke Valenti (Team Ecoflo Chronos), while Tyler Clark (Hockley Valley Armada) took third place on the day.

A group of four emerged early in the race that included Russell, Valenti and Clark, along with Quinton Disera (Pivot Cycles-OTE).

Russell gained a small gap on the others as Valenti suffered a mechanical, but the Team Ecoflo Chronos rider recovered from the setback and reconnected with Russell on the penultimate lap.

Russell made his winning move on the last lap and held off Valenti to take the win at the finish line in front of a home crowd.
