Evan Engram says Chiefs’ Travis Kelce is the ‘best ever’ tight end

It’s safe to say Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram thinks highly of the tight end who will be on the opposite sideline Sunday.

When asked Wednesday what he thinks of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Engram didn’t mince words.

“Best ever. Best ever,” Engram said, via 1010XL. “It looks like he’s out there creating in his own world, creating his own routes. Him and [Patrick Mahomes] on the same page. Any time he’s on TV, I watch. It’s a no-brainer to sit down and watch what he can do.

“And I’ve added so much stuff from his game to mine. Just taking clips over the years. He’s changing the game and he’s leading the way for receiving tight ends like us to get more money too.”

Kelce, 33, is a seven-time Pro Bowl and has an NFL-leading seven touchdown receptions so far this season. With 335 more yards, Kelce would become the fifth tight end to eclipse 10,000 in an NFL career. His 64 career touchdown receptions are sixth most.

In 2020, Kelce signed a four-year, $57.25 million extension with the Chiefs that was restructured a few weeks ago to convert a chunk of his base salary into a signing bonus. The $14.3 million average of his deal was the top among tight ends until extensions for George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers and Darren Waller of the Las Vegas Raiders eclipsed that number.

In March, the Jaguars signed Engram to a one-year deal worth $9 million. Through nine games he has 33 receptions for 338 yards with a touchdown.
