32 NHL teams have played between 29 and 34 games out of 82 in the 2024-2025 season. Eight of those teams won 20 or more games. This is an impressive statistic considering two teams (Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks) finished at or near the 20-win threshold at the end of the 2023-2024 season.

1. Winnipeg Jets, 23-10-1, 1st Place, Central Division (Western Conference)
The Winnipeg Jets shocked many NHL fans with their record-setting 15-1 start. Though the Jets have cooled a bit since then, the team is still on top of the Central Division. The Jets dropped their most recent game to the Anaheim Ducks and have a tough two-game stretch leading up to Christmas. On December 21, they host the Minnesota Wild. On December 23, they are in Toronto.
2. New Jersey Devils, 21-10-3, 1st Place, Metropolitan Division (Eastern Conference)
There has been no stopping the New Jersey Devils this season. They won five of their last seven games. Earlier this season, they defeated the Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers twice in three days. They will get another shot at Florida on January 14.
3. Washington Capitals, 21-8-2, 2nd Place, Metropolitan Division (Eastern Conference)
The Washington Capitals won eight of their last eleven games. They have held their own without their legendary captain and NHL legend Alex Ovechkin who is reportedly returning right before or after Christmas. He suffered a broken leg in late November.
4. Vegas Golden Knights, 20-8-3, 1st Place, Pacific Division (Western Conference)
The Vegas Golden Knights are winners of five of their last six games including wins over the Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota Wild. This team has been a force to reckon with, especially at home. They were undefeated at home until November 11 when they dropped their first home game to the Carolina Hurricanes.
