The Perth-based band comprises frontman Daniel Estrin, guitarist Simone Dow, bassist Alex Canion, guitarist Scott Kay and drummer Ashley Doodkorte. The song was written by the band.
Voyager have released six albums in their native country, with a seventh album Fearless In Love released on July 14 this year. The band formed in 1999 at the University of Western Australia and has gone through various line-up changes since. Frontman Estrin is the only member to have been part of the band since its inception.
Their song Promise is described as being an 80s-tinged progressive synth-metal anthem. It is about adventure and redemption and finding ‘the things that make you happier’.
Australia have taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2015, when they were first invited to participate as part of the show’s 60th anniversary. Their highest placement came in 2016 when Dami Im placed second with Sound of Silence.
This year's Eurovision Song Contest festivities kicked off on Sunday when the 37 competing acts took to a turquoise carpet welcome ceremony. Semi-final events then took place on Tuesday and Thursday night.
Mae Muller, 25, will compete for the UK with her track I Wrote A Song. Also competing in the grand final is France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Croatia, Moldova, Switzerland, Finland, Czechia, Norway, Israel, Portugal, Serbia, Ukraine, Albania, Cyprus, Estonia, Belgium, Austria, Lithuania, Poland, Australia, Armenia and Slovenia.
The grand final takes place on Saturday from 8pm, live on BBC One.
The lyrics in full to Promise
Have you ever done anything like this before?
Have you ever done anything like this before?
If you've never done anything like this before
Then you haven't been alive
Have you ever shut all the open doors
Have you ever just walked on out on your own
Have you ever just lost your mind when you try to unwind
Or are you coming right back for more?
I'm here tonight
Promise me you'll hold me till I die
I'm by your side
Promise me it's gonna
Promise me it's gonna be alright
Ah-oh, ah-oh, ah-oh, ah-oh-oh-oh
Promise me it's gonna be alright
Ah-oh, ah-oh, ah-oh, ah-oh-oh-oh
Promise me it's gonna be alright
Have you ever been alone too much
Have you ever prayed for human touch
Have you ever just lost a little part of you
To find a little something new?
Cross my heart
Till the sky turns red in the sunrise
Since you told me everything's alright
Ah-oh, ah-oh, ah-oh, ah-oh-oh-oh
Since you told me everything's alright
Ah-oh, ah-oh, ah-oh, ah-oh-oh-oh
Promise me it's gonna be alright
I'm here tonight
Promise me you'll hold me till I die
I'm by your side
Promise me it's gonna
Promise me it's gonna
Promise me it's gonna be alright
Alright
(Cross my heart
Till the sky turns red in the sunrise)
Promise me it'ѕ gonna be alright
(Be аlright!)
Alright
