European sporting director speaks out on Rangers' 'interest' in highly-rated defender

Hammarby insist they are desperate to keep Rangers target Hampus Skoglund, and they have revealed the Ibrox club have yet to make their move.

Danny Rohl's side have been heavily linked with a swoop for the 22-year-old right back after a string of good performances in the Swedish league.

Skoglund is valued at around £2million and there has also been reported interest from teams in Germany, Italy and France too. However, Hammarby sports director Mikael Hjelmberg is determined to keep their player.

He said: "Hampus is an important part of the team. We have a very good squad, and my goal is to try to keep that squad as intact as possible.

"I have no idea how serious Rangers' interest in him is because I haven't heard a sound from them. The transfer window hasn't opened, but of course, I have a fairly close dialogue with Hampus's agent.

"But there haven't been any concrete talks between us and any clubs yet. Previously, there had been concrete interest, but not this year."
