European football chiefs lose ‘confidence’ in Fifa boss

Gianni Infantino was expected to be re-elected unopposed next year for a third and final four-year term at the helm of Fifa, but the embarrassing climbdown from his share-sale plan might have opened the way for a rival to step forward. (Photo: AFP)

PARIS - Fifa president Gianni Infantino has lost the “confidence” of European football’s governing body after his plan to allow private investment in the World Cup was withdrawn following a global backlash.
