The Council of Europe, a pan-European human rights body, has questioned the integrity of the World Cup and urged governing body Fifa to help build a stronger framework for the 2030 edition being played mostly in Spain and Portugal.
The 2026 World Cup has been tainted by political pressure, racist abuse of players and the opening up to betting markets which paves the way to fraud, the Council's secretary general Alain Berset said Sunday.
