Europe records 35,959 daily flights over summer – its busiest on record

  • Europe recorded its busiest summer for air travel, with an average of 35,959 daily flights operating between 1 June and 31 August, a 2.4 per cent increase year-on-year.
  • A new daily network record was set on 10 July, when 37,640 flights crossed European airspace.
  • Ongoing conflict in the Middle East altered traffic distribution, reducing flights over countries like Türkiye and Bulgaria while boosting volume across southern Europe and the Balkans.
  • European flight arrival punctuality improved slightly to 72.6 per cent, though Marseille, Athens and Barcelona suffered delays caused by staffing and capacity constraints.
  • UK airport passenger numbers also hit a record high, with over 81 million people travelling through the country between April and June.
