England have the chance to exact some revenge on Italy after the nations were tied together in the Euro 2024 qualifying draw.
The Three Lions - who infamously lost the last European Championship final to the Azzurri on penalties at Wembley in July 2021 - will also face Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta on their route to Germany in two years' time. Gareth Southgate's side were a second seed after suffering relegation from the Nations League - coincidentally at the hands of Italy once again - last month.
Meanwhile, Scotland have the task of facing Spain, Norway, Georgia and Cyprus. Wales will play Croatia, Armenia, Turkey and Latvia, as they bid to reach the Euro finals for the second time running. Northern Ireland have also been handed Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland and San Marino.
Southgate will be hoping to still be in charge of England by the time the tournament gets under way in Germany, as the Three Lions manager faces mounting pressure on his position ahead of this winter's World Cup in Qatar.
After a couple of years dealing with the effects of Covid-19-delayed fixtures and squeezing in the winter World Cup, there'll be a feeling of a return to normality ahead of this tournament. The qualification process will take place from March 2023, with the group phase concluding in November after five rounds of double matchdays throughout the year.
The 10 winners and 10 runners-up from the qualifying groups will fill the initial 20 slots in the tournament, with three places decided via the play-offs - influenced by teams' results in this year's Nations League - which will take place in March 2024. Germany already guaranteed their place, having won the bidding process after going head-to-head in Turkey.
Once the final 24 teams are decided, the group stage draw will take place and nations will battle it out across 10 hosts between June 14, 2024 and July 14, 2024. A total of 51 matches will be played across the 10 host cities; Berlin, Munich, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne and Leipzig.
