European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen presented the EU Kids Act on 17 September.
The proposal tightens online child safety to improve youth physical and mental well-being. It sets a minimum EU-wide age to open social media accounts and bans accounts for children under 13. It stops profiling-based recommender feeds and addictive features and requires service providers to prove their services are “safe by design”.
