With her familiar toothy smile and irrepressible campaigning zeal, Esther Rantzen was a broadcasting phenomenon.

For more than 20 years, as presenter and producer of the BBC’s That’s Life!, she was the reigning queen of Sunday night television, regularly attracting audiences of more than 20 million.
