Esso offering cheaper petrol for people with certain jobs - see if you qualify

Esso is offering cheaper fuel prices - but whether or not you qualify for discounted petrol and diesel depends on your job.

The fuel company is giving away a free Esso Card to all Blue Light Card members, who will then benefit from discounted petrol and diesel at more than 1,200 Esso-branded fuel stations in the UK.

This includes more than 700 Esso pumps that are open 24-hours a day.

Esso Card holders can receive up to 6p per litre off their fuel, which the company says will save drivers an average of £110 per year, The Liverpool Echo reports.

There is no limits to the number of times the card is used, and it can be used with any household vehicles.

Rising costs have forced families across the country to take a closer look at their finances to save where possible.

And for drivers, this often means hunting down cheaper fuel.

Despite the average cost of fuel going down over the last few months, petrol is still 26p a litre more than it was a year ago, and diesel costs 40p a litre more.

The higher prices means drivers will be looking for ways to cut down on their fuel spend.

People working the following industries will be eligible for a Blue Light Card:

  • NHS
  • Police Service
  • Ambulance Service
  • Fire Service
  • HM Prison Service/HMPPS
  • NHS Dental Practice
  • HM Armed Forces
  • MoD Civil Servant
  • MoD Fire Service
  • MoD Police
  • Highway Traffic Officers
  • Home Office
  • Social Care
  • Pharmacy Workers

  • Search and Rescue
  • 4x4 Response
  • Blood Bikes
  • St Andrews Ambulance
  • St John Ambulance

Those who qualify will benefit from discounted fuel, but the discount will vary depending on the type of fuel used.

For Esso Card holders using Synergy Unleaded petrol, a 3p-per-litre discount (inclusive of VAT) can be applied to their fuel.

Synergy Diesel users will get 4p-per-litre off fuel.

Synergy Supreme+ 99 Unleaded will benefit from a 5p-per-litre discount, and for Synergy Supreme+ Diesel it's 6p.

Esso's Blue Light Cards will also allow customers to collect Nectar loyalty points whenever they top up on fuel.

A number of businesses offer discounts for those with a Blue Light Card, including Cineworld, JD, New Look, Odeon, and Starbucks.
