Shannon Sharpe is fed up with criticism of the College Football Playoff selection committee’s decision to include Alabama over Florida State in its four-team postseason field.
The committee placed the Crimson Tide (12–1) at No. 4 after beating previously undefeated Georgia (12–1) in the SEC championship game on Saturday. CFP leaders felt Alabama’s win was enough to leap over the Seminoles (13–0), who beat Louisville to capture the ACC title despite playing without without star quarterback Jordan Travis.
During Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s First Take, Sharpe made it clear that he’s ready to end the discussion involving the Seminoles’ snub.
“Ya’ll gonna need to take that Justin Timberlake and ‘Cry Me a River’ somewhere else cause I’m over it now,” Sharpe said. “…Alabama gonna win this thing [CFP national title]. I don’t care about what seed … no mustard seed, no grape seed, no sunflower seed. Alabama in two.”
After Sunday’s rankings, Florida State became the first undefeated Power 5 team to be left out of the final four since the current CFP format began in 2014. As a consolation prize, FSU will face Georgia in the Orange Bowl at 4 p.m. ET on Dec. 30.
