Flubs and mistakes aren’t that common at the highest level of sports broadcasting, but from time-to-time, it’s expected a slip-up will happen. But then there’s whatever Karl Ravech did on Wednesday.
The ESPN broadcaster was calling the Phillies-Marlins wild-card game during an electric moment from the Citizen Bank Park crowd and decided to try and build some hype for star shortstop Trea Turner before he took the field.
“Trea Turner, learning for the first time what it means to be in a postseason,” Ravech said.
The only problem was Wednesday’s win was game No. 45 in terms of playoff appearances for Turner and the 30-year-old won a World Series with the Nationals just four years ago.

It’s hard to imagine how Ravech made such a mistake, but the only logical explanation could be that Turner’s career path threw him off. Turner started his career with the Nationals and won a World Series there but was traded to the Dodgers in 2021. He eventually signed with the Phillies this year after agreeing to terms on a massive 11-year deal worth $300 million with a full no-trade clause. Nevertheless, MLB fans won’t let him forget this fumble anytime soon.

The one nice thing of the Mets not being in the postseason is I don’t have to listen to these idiots. pic.twitter.com/XI3LRRein0
Hey Karl Ravech, Trea Turner is well aware of what a playoff atmosphere is… @Nationals pic.twitter.com/n18hfp5nV2

Can someone please tell Karl Ravech Bryson Stott has played 1700 mlb innings at 2nd base in 2 years, and that Trea Turner has a ring? He had 2 weeks to get ready for this series lmao at least pretend like you watch baseball outside the games you commentate. @ESPNMLBShow

Karl Ravech is the worst, most inept play-by-play commentator in baseball and a big reason why ESPN’s baseball coverage is damn near unwatchable. Did he honestly forget that the Nationals won the World Series with Trea Turner? Or his appearances in the 2016/2017 postseason? 🙄🤬 https://t.co/jkaA5WL3OB

Did Karl Ravech just say, “Trea Turner learning for the first time what it means be in a postseason?” The dude won a World Series!!!! #Phillies #Marlins #MLB

Karl Ravech just said Trea Turner was about experience the post season for the first time. Did his 2019 season with the World champion Nats not happen?

Karl Ravech just doesn't know how to do call play-by-play.

How have you been around the sport and not know that Trea Turner was a key cog in the Nationals' Cinderella World Series run in 2019? https://t.co/QgtkQGPz1u
