Layoffs at ESPN shook the sports media world on Friday as a number of high-profile, on-air personalities were let go by the network in a move to cut costs. After weeks of speculation and just a handful of reported departures, a plethora of cuts were revealed ahead of the holiday weekend, headlined by some of the company’s biggest names.
ESPN acknowledged the layoffs in a statement but declined to identify those that would be affected. Based on reports or announcements from the individuals themselves, here are those that have been laid off on Friday.
Top NBA analyst/announcer Jeff Van Gundy was among the first reported to be on his way out at the network, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post. Shortly after, Marchand reported that studio analyst and former NBA star Jalen Rose had been let go as well.
Longtime ESPN personality Max Kellerman and former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, who had their radio show with Jay Williams reportedly cancelled last week, were also rumored to have been let go. Later, Monday Night Countdown host Suzy Kolber announced that she had been laid off after 27 years at the Worldwide Leader.

Later in the afternoon, three front-facing members of ESPN’s on-air NFL team were let go. According to Marchand, top NFL draft expert Todd McShay and quarterbacks-turned-analysts Steve Young and Matt Hasselbeck were reportedly all laid off on Friday.
ESPN was reportedly expected to part ways with about 20 on-air personalities during the cuts. Among the others known to be and/or reported to be affected were MLB staff writer Joon Lee, College Gameday analyst David Pollack, SportsCenter host Ashley Brewer and radio host Jason Fitz.

Incredibly grateful for all the opportunities I received over the last four-plus years. I got to live out my literal childhood dream job, worked with some of the most talented people and made so many friends.
Really excited to see whatever comes next
