ESPN asked coaches, scouts, and executives to rank the top running backs in the NFL ahead of the 2024 NFL season. The Vikings signed Green Bay running back Aaron Jones to become their starter, but according to those who were asked, Jones isn’t a top-10 running back. According to the ESPN article, Jones was listed as an honorable mention.
[Aaron] Jones finished the 2023 season with five consecutive 100-yard games through the regular season and playoffs. He lost a tight battle with Etienne for the 10th spot. “Green Bay’s offense was completely different when he was healthy,” an NFC defensive coach said. “He’s a difference-maker”
Jones isn’t exactly a young buck anymore. He’s been in the league since 2017, and his age is close to that dreaded 30, which is the age so many people say running backs can’t perform after. But the fact is, Jones showed last season he still has plenty left in the tank. He had three games in a row over 100 yards to finish out the season and was the bell cow of the offense.
Jones has been over 1,000 yards three times in his career, and with the Vikings’ quarterback situation, Kevin O’Connell may look to lean on Jones more in 2024.
