Very rarely are high school football games deemed big enough to receive national television audiences (which might not be a bad thing).
Friday’s game between Mill Creek and Buford High Schools in Georgia, however, was no ordinary contest. Both are national powers, and both entered the game 6-0. Buford boasts future Georgia quarterback Dylan Raiola; the action on ESPN2 drew eyeballs across the Peach State and beyond.
With under a minute left, Mill Creek clung to a 31-24 lead with Buford driving toward a potential tie. Instead of a fantastic finish, however, viewers were treated to … preseason basketball.
ESPN2 opted to switch over to the exhibition game between the Warriors and Lakers, confusing viewers across the country.

But with Buford down 7 and driving, ESPN2 had to cut away with less than 30 seconds left.
The reason? Preseason NBA action. pic.twitter.com/lMjA8bgOHy
Among those confused was future Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end J.J. Watt, who asked Georgians to tell him how the game concluded.
Need someone to update me on what happened at the end of Buford vs. Mill Creek.

Cutting away from the game coverage with 20 seconds left on a game-winning drive for a preseason bball game was wild 😂
Anyone in Georgia got an update for me?
Mill Creek hung on to win, 31-24, even if no one outside Georgia saw the finish.
