Escape to Freight Island and Mayfield Park to host Bonfire Night event - after council cancels firework displays

Escape to Freight Island and Mayfield Park have teamed up to create a Bonfire Night event featuring firework displays, DJs and walkabout performers. Taking place on Friday November 4, you can expect all of Escape to Freight Island’s signature live entertainment.

There will be two sessions across the evening, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm with a display at 7pm. Then there will be a later session from 8pm until late, with another fireworks display at 9pm.

Visitors will be able to view the displays from both Escape to Freight Island and Mayfield Park. The tickets for Escape to Freight Island sessions include complimentary sparklers, live indoor and outdoor entertainment.

Ticket holders will also benefit from Fast Track Entry into the park via a secure gated entrance - allowing guests to go back and forth between the venue and the park easily. These tickets will include access to Mayfield Park and will cost £8 for adults and £2 for children.

Tickets for Mayfield Park only (with no access to Escape to Freight Island) are £5 for adults and £2 for children. For the 5.30pm session, children under two and adults over 60 are free (although there is limited allocation available). You can purchase tickets from the Escape to Freight Island website.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Manchester Council is scrapping fireworks displays and bonfire events at parks across the borough. Previously events were held in eight parks including Heaton Park, Platt Fields Park, and Debdale Park, and last took place in 2019 before the pandemic - but they will not return for 2022.

According to the Council the cancellations are due to numerous reasons, including escalating costs, increased safety measures and pressure on Council budgets.
