Erling Haaland's reacts to first Manchester derby as Phil Foden breaks Lionel Messi record

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines for Sunday, October 2.

Hat-trick hero's brilliant reaction

Erling Haaland played down his Manchester derby hat-trick by praising his City teammates, as his electric start to life at the Etihad continued in devastating fashion against Manchester United.

Haaland now has 17 goals and three assists in just 11 City games, and had a part in five of the Blues' six goals against United. He is the first Premier League player to score three consecutive hat-tricks in as many home games, and United simply couldn't cope with him in his first derby.

Typically understated, Haaland prefers to play down his achievements, and he reflected on his latest hat-trick with a two-word answer when speaking directly after the full-time whistle. "Not bad," he told Sky Sports when asked to give his thoughts on the display.

Foden breaks new ground by usurping Messi

City's thumping 6-3 derby day defeat of Manchester United may well be dubbed the 'Erling Haaland derby', but it was his City teammate Phil Foden who broke a record held by one of the greatest players of all time.

Haaland scored a hat-trick and assisted two more goals on his Manchester derby debut, while Foden scored a treble of his own on an incredible afternoon for Pep Guardiola's side. The duo diplomatically shared the Player of the Match award, and while Haaland smashed a number of records of his own, Foden broke one that highlights just how remarkable his rise over the past five years has been.

Foden's second goal just before half-time took his City goal tally to 50, all of which have been scored under Guardiola's tutelage. That Foden has reached that landmark at the age of 22 years and 127 days is remarkable given that the previous youngest player to reach that total under Guardiola was Lionel Messi.
