Erling Haaland puts Man Utd on red alert over transfer as worrying trend emerges

The future of in-demand striker Erling Haaland is likely to intensify in the months to come as attention begins to turn to the summer transfer window.

In January, the Norwegian striker claimed that Borussia Dortmund were pushing him into making a decision on his future amid speculation that he may be on the move this summer.

Barcelona in December held a meeting with the player's agent Mino Raiola while Dortmund recently confirmed that Real Madrid are among those who are interested in signing the Norwegian.

The Norwegian fuelled speculation of a transfer to La Liga in January as he confirmed that he would like to play in Spain during his career.

Barca president Joan Laporta's reported confidence in signing the striker has sparked off what has been described as a 'war' between the club and El Clasico rivals Madrid.

Have Your Say! Would Haaland be the perfect signing for Man Utd? Tell us what you think here.

Manchester United will be among a host of leading European clubs looking at a potential summer swoop for Haaland alongside Manchester City, while German champions Bayern Munich will also be keeping tabs on his future.

Yet Haaland has suffered injury problems this campaign and that could make clubs re-think their stance on signing the striker, who has a reported £63million release clause kicking in this summer.

Aged just 21, Haaland has already had four injuries this campaign which has caused him to miss a total of 87 days – more than double that of last campaign, which Diario AS say was just 36 days.

These various injuries have been hip and groin issues with several muscular setbacks – and there is said to be concern that these may become a longer-term trend in the striker's career.

Dortmund coach Marco Rose has confirmed: "Erling continues to have problems. He doesn't feel free. He still doesn't feel comfortable in his movements.

"What we don't want is to cause a relapse. Neither does he. We don't want to take risks with his health. I have to be honest: it may take him a few more matches."

There is little question over the 21-year-old’s world class status, as he has netted 80 goals in just 79 appearances for Dortmund since his switch from Red Bull Salzburg two years ago – including 23 times in 20 outings this campaign.

Haaland has continued to break multiple goal-scoring records, netting 27 goals in 25 matches across his games in European competitions.

In the 2020–21 campaign, Haaland was integral in Dortmund's DFB-Pokal win, won the Bundesliga Player of the Season award and finished as the top scorer of the Champions League.

Yet his injury track record this season may cause a pause for thought among clubs who would be prepared to make a significant investment in securing his services.
