Erling Haaland in Rangers return clash waiting game as subdued Marco Rose offers no assurances

There could be further good news for Rangers in the aftermath of their momentous 4-2 Europa League victory over Borussia Dortmund.

BVB manager Marco Rose admits superstar striker Erling Haaland may have to sit-out the second leg too after being forced to watch from the stands as Rangers ran riot in Germany.

Haaland sat in the stands during the thrilling first leg encounter at the Westfalenstadion.

Goals from Rangers' James Tavernier, John Lundstrum and an Alfredo Morelos double sunk their German hosts, who sit second in the Bundesliga.

However Dortmund will only need to score twice at Ibrox to level the tie, with the away goals rule a thing of the past.

But Rose fears his side will have to do it again without the Norwegian, who has scored 23 goals in 20 appearances this season.

Asked if Haaland would be available for the trip to Glasgow, he said: “I can’t say that yet.

“Yesterday he participated in training, but just a small part.

“There’s still a few days to go but he hasn’t played for quite a while.

“It’s a difficult story so I have no idea, I can’t tell you.

“Of course this situation is difficult."

Gio van Bronckhorst's side exposed Dortmund's defensive fragilities during the tie.

Rose added: “We lost by two goals. There’s no away goals anymore so that might be a little help.

“But to score two goals at Ibrox with 50000 fans there is quite a task.

“It will be difficult but nonetheless we’ll prepare for this match so we can still keep our chances.”

Rangers host Dortmund at Ibrox in the return leg next Thursday and what a night that promises to be.
