Erik ten Hag warned £70m Man Utd transfer target will not be a 'guarantee' at Old Trafford

Erik ten Hag has been warned that Randal Kolo Muani would not neccessarily be the right alternative to Harry Kane.

Kane is Manchester United 's top target for this summer's transfer window, with Ten Hag keen to add a striker to his squad. The Red Devils ended the season just gone with Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial as their forward options, though the duo are not at the standard required.

The United boss is hoping to turn his side into perrenial trophy contenders, with the lack of a top-class striker being the biggest obstacle to that. Kane is one of the names being eyed as a potential solution to that, though Tottenham will not make it an easy negotiation.

That has forced Ten Hag to draw up potential alternatives, with Kolo Muani viewed as being one of them. The Frenchman scored 26 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt in the campaign just gone, but former United star Louis Saha does not think that will make him the right alternative to Kane.

"Randal Kolo Muani has different type of qualities to Harry Kane and he's still young. But Kolo Muani has a hunger to always score goals, keeps himself busy on the pitch and can be very versatile," Saha told Betway.

"It's a player who the Manchester United players will find easy to play with because he's very smart in the way he plays. Kolo Muani won't have any issues with the fitness or physicality needed in the Premier League.

"He can run all day and press high-up like we've seen with Wout Weghorst. He's shown it for France with Kylian Mbappe, they connected instantly. I'm sure Manchester United's strategy is to win or challenge for the Premier League title.

"If they want to do that then they need guaranteed goals. There are very few players who can provide those guarantees, and there are players like Kolo Muani, who are in the tier just below who would improve the quality of the squad but not guarantee goals."

If United opt to make a move for Kolo Muani, that may also prove difficult, with four years still remaining on his contract. Frankfurt themselves are keen to keep him, with director of football Markus Krosche insisting they do not need to sell the striker this summer.

"There may already be one or two interested parties. But so far there has been no one who has approached us, it is all speculation so far. We don't have to sell him," Krosche recently told FAZ.NET.

"Sure, we also have to work out transfer fees – but we don't have our backs to the wall. On the contrary, we have built up a good economic starting position thanks to our successes after coronavirus.

"At some point, sums will be on the table that it would be irresponsible not to think about. I'm not putting him on the market, and I don't want to transfer him. My goal is that Randal stays with us."
