Erik ten Hag urges Manchester United to match Everton anger in first game since ten-point reduction

Erik ten Hag is expecting a “mad” atmosphere inside Goodison Park as Manchester United travel to Everton on Sunday.

It is the first time the Toffees have played since a seismic ten-point reduction from the Premier League for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Sean Dyche’s looked to have turned a corner of late after winning four of their last five League games and fans are expected to protest against their punishment.

It promises to be a white-hot atmospheres in one of England’s most iconic old stadiums, representing a big challenge for United.

Still, Ten Hag - who will serve a one-match touchline suspension on Sunday - is confident his team can match that. Despite so much talk about a crisis both on and off the pitch, United headed into the international break as one of the Premier League’s form teams.

They have won four of their last six League games and could close the gap on the top four with another three points on the road.

"It's always about us. I can see the opposition, I can see they are mad,” said the Dutchman.

“Finally, it's about us.

"If they are mad, that's their fuel, we have to match those standards. If we match the standards we have a very good chance to win the game.

"I don't know the details about [the points deduction], I don't have an opinion. I can imagine Everton fans are very mad. We can do nothing about it. We have to match their standards."

Andre Onana is expected to start the game despite a groin injury suffered while away on international duty with Cameroon.

Striker Rasmus Hojlund is facing a late fitness test but Luke Shaw will be available from the start.
