Erik ten Hag transfer demand to Man Utd chiefs hints that Frenkie de Jong move still on

Manchester United still want to bring in four new faces this summer transfer window, with a central midfielder on their radar.

The Red Devils have already added a quartet of players to their ranks after appointing Erik ten Hag, although their summer has been largely frustrating. Old Trafford chiefs have missed out on several of their top targets, leaving the squad light in certain areas.

Casemiro became a marquee signing this week when he moved for over £60million from Real Madrid. The Brazilian will bring a wealth of experience having won five Champions League titles during his time in Spain, but Ten Hag is still eyeing more recruits in the middle of the park, reports The Telegraph.

Frenkie de Jong has been the club's prime target for much of the summer as the new United boss looks to reunite with a player he helped excel at Ajax. Barcelona - as well as De Jong's agents - have proved tough negotiators and the gifted Dutchman has shown no willingness to move to Manchester.

However, with a midfielder still on United's shopping list, it could mean a move for De Jong remains in their thoughts. Barcelona need to raise funds to register new signings but offloading De Jong has proved a tough task. Midfield has previously been cited as an area of weakness for United.

Fred and Scott McTominay have been their main duo but Casemiro is expected to usurp at least one of them. The new arrival said following his signing: "I can’t tell you how happy I am, really, and I think the fans will also be very important for us, helping us on to win games, and if we win games we will win titles."

United have also added Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen this summer. A poor opening two games underlined the need to bolster their ranks further, with a new forward and a right-back also on their agenda. Cristiano Ronaldo's possible departure may leave them light in the final third.

As a result, more firepower is being eyed. Meanwhile, Ten Hag is far from content with his options on the right of defence, with Diogo Dalot, who has started in the early part of the season, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka available to him.

Ten Hag also wants a back-up goalkeeper following the loan exit of Dean Henderson, who will spend the season at Nottingham Forest. The Dutchman wants a No 2 who can put genuine pressure on David de Gea despite already having Tom Heaton in the squad.
