Erik ten Hag set for collision course with Joel Glazer over Man Utd transfer plans

Erik ten Hag's ambitious summer transfer plans could be hampered by the Glazers - even if a resolution to the ongoing Manchester United takeover saga is found imminently.

The Dutchman is expecting to be backed in the transfer market after qualifying for next season's Champions League courtesy of a third-place finish, however, he is still in the dark over how much he'll actually have to spend with the club's ownership situation unclear.

Ten Hag has made acquiring an elite striker his top priority ahead of the 2023/24 campaign but is also believed to be targeting reinforcements in defence and midfield, with a deal for Chelsea maestro Mason Mount also on his agenda.

After turning United's fortunes around, Ten Hag is striving for the club to be aggressive and ambitious in the summer window - and that could put him on a collision course with Joel Glazer, whose approval will be needed for any incoming business.

That's according to The Athletic, who have outlined that sources close to the situation believe Ten Hag's plans could lead to 'friction' with Glazer, who has privately pointed out the club's financial limitations.

Although the taxing takeover process is believed to be drawing to a conclusion, neither Sir Jim Ratcliffe of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani - who lodged a fresh bid for the club this week - are set to be kept abreast of transfer developments nor given the opportunity to aid Ten Hag ahead of a takeover.

Limited finances are likely to make a deal for Harry Kane, Ten Hag's primary summer target, impossible. However, it remains to be seen if Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would sanction the sale of the club's talisman to a domestic rival even if Manchester United were willing - and able - to stump up a sum of £100million for a player who will be available for nothing in 12 months time.

The club are also hopeful of wrapping up a deal for Mount, who is set to be given the green light to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after failing to agree a new contract.

Mount, 24, will also be a free agent next summer so the Blues will now try to cash in on their academy graduate, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks.

Chelsea value Mount at around the £70m mark, however, it's highly unlikely Manchester United would pay such a sum given the player's contract situation. A resolution is expected to be found in the coming weeks with Mount keen on a switch to Old Trafford.
