Erik ten Hag's Man Utd decision that could impact Tottenham transfer exit for Antonio Conte

Sergio Reguilon will be hoping that his Tottenham future gets sorted out sooner rather than later after playing no part for the club in pre-season. A regular in Antonio Conte's Spurs team until Ryan Sessegnon forced his way in, the Spaniard unfortunately missed the final five games of 2021/22 with a groin injury.

Needing to return to match action in pre-season to step up his fitness, Reguilon has been one of four Tottenham players completely left out by the manager. Remaining back at Hotspur Way with Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks when the rest of the team headed to South Korea for their pre-season tour, the quartet were again absent for the recent games against Rangers and Roma, with the boss outlining their current situation when speaking to the media before their final summer friendly.

"I think that we spoke with the club and the players are informed about the plans for the next season, the 53-year-old told football.london . "We are talking about really good players and the club and I, we think they deserve to play games regularly. For this reason these players are not here."

Making a big impression immediately after his move from Real Madrid in September 2020, Reguilon struggled to adapt to operating as a left wing-back in Conte's setup having always played as a left-back throughout his career. Completing a deal for Ivan Perisic at the end of May as strengthening both wing-back positions was a priority for Spurs to see the system really flourish, the 25-year-old has since tumbled down the pecking order and now finds himself with no future in N17.

Reguilon has been linked with a number of clubs so far this summer, with Barcelona, Sevilla, Inter Milan and Juventus all named. It perhaps hasn't come as a surprise to see the player mentioned in regards to a switch to Sevilla after a brilliant year on loan at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in 2019/20.

His form for the Andalusia-based sided alerted the attention of Tottenham, who as a result struck a permanent deal with Real Madrid for his services a few months later. Tipped to return to Sevilla ahead of the summer transfer deadline, a reunion with Julen Lopetegui's side may now be off the cards with the Spanish side closing in on the signing of a left-back.

Having sold Ludwig Augustinsson to Aston Villa last month, Sevilla always needed to add a new left-back before the transfer deadline to compete with Marcos Acuna for the starting spot. They now appear to be about to sign their man, with Manchester United's Alex Telles reportedly on the verge of a loan move to the La Liga side.

Slipping a further spot in the pecking order at Old Trafford following Erik ten Hag's decision to sign Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, the Brazilian is on his way out of the club as he looks to feature regularly ahead of the World Cup. As reported by Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils expect their player to join Sevilla on a season-long loan deal ahead of the new La Liga campaign.

Quite what this means for Reguilon remains to be seen. As Sevilla will have two options at left-back in Acuna and Telles for 2022/23, a move for the Tottenham man wouldn't appear to make sense now as there is simply no need to add a further left-back to the ranks.

With Thursday marking four weeks until the transfer window closes for business, Reguilon and Tottenham will be hoping for a quick resolution as he looks to secure a move and return to first-team action once again after a very frustrating summer.
