Bayern Munich confirm transfer stance on Cristiano Ronaldo

Bayern Munich have distanced themselves from the prospect of signing United striker Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting he doesn't suit their philosophy.

Ronaldo, who sealed a fairytale return to Old Trafford from Juventus almost a year ago, wants to leave United this summer in pursuit of Champions League football. The Manchester Evening News also understands that the Portuguese star wants to leave because of the club's slow start to the summer transfer window and is "upset" that the squad has been forced to accept a 25 per cent reduction in their salaries.

United have failed to qualify for this forthcoming season's Champions League campaign, finishing a disappointing sixth in the Premier League last term. It means they will compete in the Europa League instead.

Erik ten Hag's frustrated three-word message to United players

United are into their second week of preparations at Carrington before they travel to Asia to begin their pre-season tour.

United completed their first signing of the summer in Tyrell Malacia on Tuesday, and expect to add Christian Eriksen and Frenkie de Jong to the squad in the coming days and weeks, while a bid has also been lodged for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.

This final week of training before travelling to the first stop on their pre-season tour in Bangkok will give Ten Hag a few more days to assess his players. All but one of United's players who were on international duty in June returned to the club earlier this week, with Ronaldo the only absentee, and here are a few things we spotted during one of Ten Hag's training sessions after United released a highlights clip.
