Erik ten Hag reveals the conversation he overheard in Man Utd dressing room: "Not happy"

Erik ten Hag has revealed that he overheard his Manchester United players say that they are "not happy" with just the Carabao Cup - and are determined to win more trophies.

The Red Devils claimed their first major honour since 2017 on Sunday as they secured a 2-0 victory over Newcastle at Wembley - six years after beating Southampton in the same competition. Goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford earned Ten Hag his maiden trophy after taking over at United last summer.

But the Dutchman isn't satisfied there and is starting to instil a winning mentality to the United changing room as they try and lift four major trophies this season. The Red Devils faced West Ham on Wednesday night in the FA Cup and are also in the Europa League while also battling towards the top of the Premier League.

Following his side's win over Newcastle, Ten Hag has admitted that the United players said they do not want to settle on just the Carabao Cup and are hungry for more success. United have a chance to progress to the quarter-final of the FA Cup for the sixth successive season against David Moyes' Hammers.

In his programme notes ahead of the clash against West Ham, Ten Hag said: "l am delighted that we have our first trophy together, but all our efforts now must be on making sure that it is not the last… now that we all have a taste of success together, the aim is to make sure it is on the menu again soon.

"What perhaps pleased me the most on Sunday was to see and hear all the players saying the same thing in the dressing room: they are not happy to ease up now that they have won a trophy and they are more determined than ever to keep winning more and more."

Ten Hag made a number of changes for the game, with Marcus Rashford amongst those to drop out of the XI alongside Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Fred. The Dutchman was quizzed in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday and hinted he was going to rotate.

He said: "Let's make myself clear, we didn't win with 11 players, we did win with a squad and I think the squad is already, the whole season, so important,” the manager told reporters. Every time players are coming in, if it's for the whole game, for minutes or a couple of games, I think also during games, we can change the dynamics.

"We do it with many more than 11 players, so I count on them and I know they will be ready because every time players play games, they take responsibility and it's about that. Take responsibility, but also you have to fight for your position. We have great months ahead of us, also great games, and I think everyone wants to play games. The players who form the best teams will play."
