Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has claimed he will "deal" with Cristiano Ronaldo after the wantaway star stormed off down the tunnel before the final whistle of his side's win over Tottenham.
Goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes secured a statement win for the Red Devils over the title challengers at Old Trafford. Ronaldo had been dropped to the bench for the visit of Antonio Conte's men, having scored just two goals in the Premier League all season.
In his place, Marcus Rashford started up-front, with the Red Devils going on to put in their best performance since Ten Hag took charge. Despite their win, one man seemed less than pleased though, with Ronaldo filmed walking off down the tunnel around the 88th minute.
Footage from Amazon Prime showed Ronaldo walking down the touchline and looking over his shoulder as the game carried on behind him. He then took off his bib and long-sleeved training top as he walked back down to the dressing room at Old Trafford.
The incident took the shine off United's impressive win, with Ten Hag claiming he will deal with the incident on Thursday. The Dutchman was keen to play down the incident, but revealed he had not spoken to Ronaldo before he stormed off.
"He was there, I have seen him but I didn't speak. I will deal with that tomorrow not today. We're celebrating this victory and now we have to recover and another big game on Saturday, Chelsea. The Premier League, so exciting," he told Amazon Prime.
"I think you see today we developed and you can see in the last weeks we are growing in the season and becoming more proactive in and out of possession. First you get organisation in and out of possession, then you dictate the intensity and that is what we did today.
"To be fair, I did not expect it before because Spurs have been solid this season, it was a magnificent performance and I hope we set a new base for the season. There were so many things that were good, but in possession, the switch of play and how we dictated the play and created chances."
Former Newcastle star Alan Shearer slammed Ronaldo for his antics, though admitted to understanding his frustration. But Shearer also believes that he has now made life incredibly difficult for Ten Hag.
"I understand his frustration that he's not been able to get on the pitch but if you look at the bigger picture his team have put in a really good performance tonight and the manager had a big call to make in leaving him out but it's turned out to be the right decision because they've done everything right," he told Amazon Prime in commentary.
"It's a difficult situation because, for him [Erik ten Hag], we're talking about the best player in the world, maybe the best player we've ever seen, so he's under pressure from that point of view. But it does make things difficult for the manager.
"Because he's going to be asked about that in the press conference and really he should be talking about every one of his players on the pitch tonight because they've all been impressive."
