Erik ten Hag explains what impressed him most about Manchester United win over Liverpool FC

Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United have 'potential' after they thrashed Liverpool 4-0 during his first game in charge of the club.

The Dutchman started his United reign with an impressive friendly victory on Tuesday thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri.

United were much improved from their performances of last season, though the scoreline didn't fairly reflect the number of wasted chances Jurgen Klopp's side had during the match.

United will still need to be at their best if they are to match Liverpool in the Premier League next season, and Ten Hag has urged caution despite the incredible margin of victory.

“Of course we are satisfied today because I think it was a team with a great spirit, and we know we have just started," he told MUTV after the win.

"We did the press, a few mistakes in pressing, conceded some chances, but we also created a lot. I think our team played brave, played proactive. We have to work really hard to get out of the mistakes, but of course we are happy with the first game."

When asked what impressed him the most during his first match in charge, the new United manager added: "I know we have good players. We started, first game now, so I am happy.

"(It will take) a lot of time. Believe me. I have seen a lot of mistakes. Liverpool played three teams, and they were not at their strongest. We have not overestimated this result.

"We have to be careful, but still, I have seen some really good things, and I think what we see, we have a lot of creativity and speed in front. We have potential."
