The Erie County Department of Health has confirmed a travel-related case of diphtheria and identified four schools in the West Seneca Central School District as possible exposure sites, according to Buffalo Toronto Public Media. Letters went to families at Clinton Primary, Northwood Elementary, Winchester-Potters Elementary and East Middle School. Households are being asked to watch for symptoms through Oct. 18.
School and health officials have stressed that the chance of infection is extremely small. Northwood Elementary principal Angela Ferri described the risk that way in an Oct. 9 letter to families, The Buffalo News reported.
