The Epic Games Store free games this week are "Breathedge" and "Rival Stars Horse Racing: Desktop Edition," and both are available to claim through September 3.
Once you claim them through the Epic Games Store, they stay attached to your account after the promotion ends. Epic rotates its PC giveaways every Thursday, making this page worth checking again when the next offer goes live.
There is a catch with this week's headline game, though: you may already own it.
"Breathedge" was free to keep on Steam from August 7 through August 9, meaning Epic started giving it away only 18 days after the Steam promotion ended. It also previously appeared as an Epic Games Store giveaway from April 27 through May 4, 2023, according to archived giveaway records.
So before adding another copy to another PC library, it is worth checking where you already own it.

The two games carry a combined regular PC value of $49.98.
That corrects one number appearing in some early giveaway roundups. "Rival Stars Horse Racing: Desktop Edition" is normally $24.99, not $29.99.
How To Claim The Epic Games Store Free Games
You do not have to download either game before the promotion ends.
- Sign in to your Epic Games account.
- Visit the Epic Games Store Free Games page .
- Open the store page for the game you want.
- Select Get .
- Complete the checkout at $0.
- Repeat for the second game.
Once the transaction is complete, the game is added to your Epic library permanently.
That last part is important. The deadline is for claiming the game, not installing or finishing it. You can add both to your account now and download them months or years later.
Miss the deadline completely, however, and there is no grace period.
'Breathedge' Was Just Free Somewhere Else
"Breathedge" is a first-person survival game from RedRuins Softworks built around scavenging the remains of a destroyed space liner, crafting equipment and trying not to die in vacuum.
There is also an immortal chicken.
The unusual part this week is not the game itself. It is how recently PC players had another opportunity to get it free.
On August 7, RedRuins announced through the game's official Steam news feed that "Breathedge" would become free to keep for 48 hours. The giveaway started at 10 a.m. PT on August 7 and ended at the same time on August 9.
Now it is free again through Epic.
The timing makes more sense when you look at the sequel. "Breathedge 2" is scheduled to enter Early Access on August 31, and RedRuins explicitly tied the Steam giveaway to the sequel's approaching launch.
Epic's giveaway therefore arrives in the middle of a larger promotional push for the series.
"Breathedge" normally costs $24.99 and requires about 7GB of storage, according to its Epic Games Store listing.
'Rival Stars Horse Racing' Is The Newer Offer
"Rival Stars Horse Racing: Desktop Edition" is arguably the more interesting claim for anyone who already collects Epic's weekly games.
PikPok's horse racing and management game combines breeding, training and ranch management with direct racing and cross-country riding.
Unlike "Breathedge," the desktop edition only arrived on Epic on August 27, the same day this week's giveaway started.
Its normal Epic price is $24.99.
That means this week's promotion is less "two old games suddenly became free" and more a combination of two different strategies: an established survival game being used to promote an upcoming sequel and a racing game launching onto a new storefront through a giveaway.
Last Week's Epic Games Are Gone
"Cardpocalypse" rotated out of the promotion when today's games arrived.
Epic also offered the "Albion Online Epic Mage Bundle," although that was additional content for the free-to-play MMO rather than another premium standalone game.
If you claimed "Cardpocalypse" before the rotation, it remains in your account.
If you did not, today's change means the offer is over.

Epic's Next Free Game Arrives September 3

"Alone With You" arrives on the Epic Games Store on September 3, and Epic's newly revealed schedule identifies it as the next giveaway after "Breathedge" and "Rival Stars Horse Racing."
Developed by Benjamin Rivers, "Alone With You" is a narrative sci-fi adventure centered on the final survivor of a failed space colony and an AI trying to help them escape.
September also marks the game's 10th anniversary. Rivers has said the new release includes code work, bug fixes, mobile controls and a doubled frame rate as the game expands to Epic Games Store, iOS and Android.
That gives this page its next update.
