The government has notified the Employees' Provident Funds Scheme, 2026, which falls under the Code on Social Security, 2020, replacing the previous Employees' Provident Funds Scheme, 1952.
The new scheme emphasizes a solid legal framework, prioritizes digital processes and implements stricter governance for exempted EPF trusts. However, key features such as the maximum contribution rate of 12% of the basic pay, the Universal Account Number (UAN) as the primary account number, Voluntary Provident Fund (VPF) and withdrawal rules remain the same as before.
