Eoghan McDermott breaks social media silence after long hiatus

After a long hiatus, Eoghan McDermott has broken his social media silence with a post to his Instagram stories.

The DJ and TV presenter has been radio silent over the past few months as he refrained from posting. However, he shared a cute snap of his dog wrapped up in a blanket with his followers on Friday night.

The photo was his first snap in over a year on the social media platform Instagram as the last photo on his grid is a photo of him and late presenter Caroline Flack, which was posted in February 2021.

Eoghan has been quiet on social media since his departure from RTE 2FM in 2021.

RTE previously shared a statement about his departure, saying:

"RTÉ confirms that Eoghan McDermott will not be returning to RTÉ 2FM," the statement read.

"His contract is due to expire shortly. RTÉ is developing a new direction for the 2FM Breakfast Show which will be revealed in the coming weeks. Doireann Garrihy will remain with the show."

The former radio presenter has also deactivated his Twitter account after he launched legal action in the High Court against the social media giant.

Mr McDermott filed papers against Twitter International Unlimited Company, but it is unclear what the action relates to.

His solicitors, Dublin-based firm Harringtons, confirmed that Mr McDermott had taken the case.

The 38-year-old quit his role co-hosting the RTÉ station's breakfast show in March of 2021 following a brief period of unscheduled annual leave after more than six years with the broadcaster.

He had previously presented with Spin FM, along with a period working in London, before joining RTÉ in 2014.
