Enzo Fernandez sends warning to Premier League clubs with Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino message

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez has sent a warning to the rest of the Premier League by claiming the side will be back at the top in the coming season. It comes after a disappointing campaign for the Blues, who finished 12th in the division after a tough year with plenty of change.

Four different head coaches took charge of the team over the course of the previous season, with £600million spent on transfer incomings. One of those signings was Fernandez for a British transfer record fee in January, joining on transfer deadline day at the last minute.

While the side struggled to add many wins to their tally after the halfway point, Fernandez was one of the bright sparks in the team. The 22-year-old played in a deeper midfield role, often looking to receive the ball under pressure and then progress it forward for the rest of the team.

That isn't the position he's expected to play for the future though, with the youngster making a request to play further forward in the side. Fernandez's father - Raul - told the Chelsea Spot: "Next season? My son wants to be a champion! I think [we will see Enzo play further forward]! He was going to ask [Pochettino] to play further advanced.”

With the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as head coach this summer, there will be hopes that the west London outfit can return to their former glory towards the top of the Premier League. It's something that Fernandez has backed as he put out a review of his season on social media.

Taking to Instagram, he said: "Already enjoying the holidays with my family I can make a brief review of this wonderful year. First of all the family is getting bigger! I lived brilliants moments in just one year. Very grateful to play for Benfica and I take the opportunity to congratulate all the Benfiquistas for the title!!

"Then it was time to touch the skies with the hands having the opportunity to play in a World Cup for my country Argentina and a childhood dream became true by winning this such desired title. I still had half a year and there was an opportunity to reach one more dream, to play the Premier League and fight for Chelsea!

"Happy and more than happy with everything we have experienced this year. We are moving forward with the national team. We are moving forward with Chelsea that although the first semester was not as we all wanted, we know that this is a serious project and with people who are looking for the best for the club and this year we will show it!!"

It remains to be seen if the project will work as intended this summer and beyond, but the Blues will be looking for stark improvement under their new head coach.
