'Enormous' - Former Manchester United ace highlights Casemiro role for Christian Eriksen goal vs Fulham

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has heaped praise on Casemiro for his crucial role in the build-up to Christian Eriksen's goal against Fulham.

In his 13th league appearance, Eriksen finally managed to open his account for United during their last game before the World Cup break. Erik ten Hag's side took the lead against Fulham in the 14th minute, with the Dane turning home from close range after being picked out at the back-post by an ever-so-slightly deflected Bruno Fernandes pass.

The plaudits were of course right to go the way of both Eriksen and Fernandes, as well as Anthony Martial for carrying the ball with speed to the edge of the Cottagers' penalty area. However, Casemiro turned defence into attack just moments earlier, with a vital tackle on the half-way line to set the move in motion.

Saha knew how important the former Real Madrid man's intervention was, as he heaped praise on Casemiro for his involvement in Eriksen's goal.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "They’re [United] trying to press when you see the impact of Casemiro, the impact on the ball, he passed the ball to Eriksen to allow everyone to bombard forward. It’s an enormous tackle."

Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp was also impressed with United's opening goal, as he pointed out the ability of both Eriksen and Fernandes to drive their team forward playing such a vital role in the move.

He said: "United’s midfield three getting the better of Fulham’s. The hardest thing as a midfielder is to run towards your own goal. Palhinha gets attracted to the ball but he leaves Eriksen. Such an important goal, such desire from Eriksen and Fernandes, when they get the ball they played it and ran forward without it, so important for them."
