A TikToker from England has angered her Welsh viewers after declaring her trip to Wales was "crap" and saying one area was "the weirdest place I have ever visited." Katie McAleese made the four-hour journey from the south of England to Pembrokeshire - Pembroke Dock to be exact - but wasn't impressed with what she found. When she posted a vlog of her holiday, Welsh people quickly arrived in the comments.
Katie started her video by saying: "Come with me to Wales, and - spoiler alert - it was crap," following up by saying she was "mugged off" by the cost of KFC and WHSmith on the journey and adding that she was "pleased to find" that Wales had McDonald's and KFC.
When she arrived, she complained that her hotel (a Travelodge) was "just awful," with "paper-thin" walls. But her real grievance was with the town she'd chosen to stay in. "I'm sorry," she said. "But this area is the creepiest area I've ever been to in my life."
Katie and her travelling companion were staying in Pembroke Dock, and she described it as "eerie" and like "living out of Hot Fuzz in real life." She went on to praise the food at a restaurant she ate at, but said "everything here was so drab, dreary and just scary, everyone was acting like NPCs."
After making it to the coast to take some photos, she found it "mildly terrifying" that so much of it was taken up by a military firing range. Then she took aim at one of Wales' best-loved tourist spots, calling Tenby "a massive letdown."
She praised a pasty she bought from Pembrokeshire Pasty & Pie Co, but clearly wasn't impressed with her visit overall. In the comments, Welsh viewers were quick to tell Katie not to hurry back - and to pick a wider range of places to visit if she did.
One person said: "Please don't judge my country on one sh*t trip. Maybe do some research before you come so you know where in Wales to go based on your hobbies and interests."
Another added: "Please don't ever visit Wales again, on behalf of Welsh people," and one person added it was "your fault for going to the sh*t parts... come back and go to nice places."
Others weren't sure why Katie chose Pembroke Dock in particular - with one person saying: "The reason you had a bad time was that you were out of season and you stayed in Pembroke Dock" and another saying Pembroke Dock "isn't a tourist location."
One commenter urged Katie to "give your head a wobble" if she thought Tenby was a let down, and another recommended places to try if she came back: "Go to the Three Cliffs Bay or Rhossili Bay when all the sunflowers are out, [or] Pen y Fan for a mountain hike."
