NEW DELHI: England would want to sign off from their disappointing ODI World Cup title defence on a winning note when they take on Pakistan on Saturday in what will be the concluding game of the tournament for both the teams.
While England have already been eliminated, Pakistan, who are currently No. 5 on the points table, are technically and mathematically alive but virtually knocked out after New Zealand's win over Sri Lanka earlier this week.
India, Australia and South Africa have already booked a spot in the semis, while New Zealand are likely to stay No. 4 despite Pakistan's win and take the fourth semi-final spot.
The incentive for England is that a win could guarantee them a top-seven finish and qualification for the Champions Trophy. However, that eventuality also depends on the results of the matches between Australia and Bangladesh as well as India vs Netherlands.
England (7th), Bangladesh (8th) and Netherlands (10th) are locked on 4 points going into their final league games and are separted only by net run rate.
