England meet Germany at Wembley on Sunday in a massive Women’s Euro 2022 final.
Here, Standard Sport’s Simon Collings looks at three key issues that could prove decisive to the outcome of a colossal clash between old rivals...
Bright must master Popp
England defender Millie Bright has been one of the stars of Euro 2022, but she will have her work cut out trying to stop Germany striker Alexandra Popp.
The 31-year-old is incredibly physical and looks to use her power to bring others into play. Bright is a strong centre-back and she will need to impose herself early on to ensure Germany do not get off to a fast start at Wembley.
Walsh key to tempo
England’s forwards caught the eye against Sweden, but it was their midfield that really won them the game. Keira Walsh has flown under the radar this tournament but she is vital to making the Lionesses tick and dictating the tempo of the game.
Germany will look to press England high up the pitch, so Walsh will be vital in ensuring they stay composed on the ball and find a way through the defence.
Mead’s striking impact
Beth Mead is the joint top scorer at this tournament with six. She has been on fire and will hope that run continues at Wembley on Sunday.
Mead has developed a crucial knack of scoring big goals too, notably England’s winner in the opening game and their first in the semi-final, which paved the way for the rout of Sweden.
A goal against Germany in front of 90,000 would top that and send her on the way to becoming a national hero.
