England vs France player ratings: Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka good

Jordan Pickford: Couldn't really do anything about Aurelien Tchouameni's stunning strike, with the goalkeeper seeing the effort late. Made a great save to deny Giroud in the second half. 7

Kyle Walker: Managed to keep Kylian Mbappe relatively quiet, with the France winger failing to register a shot on target. He was unable to get up the flank on enough occasions, though. 7

John Stones: Didn't really do much wrong in the game, but will be disappointed that England conceded twice. Either him or Maguire should have been tighter to Olivier Giroud. 6

Harry Maguire: Was comfortable for much of the game and did what he was in the team to do. However, like Stones, will be annoyed with the manner of France's winner. 6

Luke Shaw: Dealt with Ousmane Dembele well and managed to get forward when he was able to. Had an early chance from a free-kick, but his effort was tame. 6

Declan Rice: One of England's better players on the night. Broke up play really well and got his teammates on the ball in good areas. Deserved more. 7

Jordan Henderson: Worked incredibly hard for the team, but was unable to influence the game as he would've liked to. Looked tired before being taken off. 6

Jude Bellingham: Not his best performance at the World Cup, however, he was still up and down the pitch until the final minute. Battled well in the middle of the park. 6

Bukayo Saka: England's best player. The Arsenal winger gave Theo Hernandez a difficult night. He won the Three Lions' first penalty, but was surprisingly taken off. 8

Phil Foden: Made the most of playing against a make-shift right-back, and showed glimpses of his quality throughout the game. Faded towards the end of the tie. 7

Harry Kane: Scored England's only goal of the game, but also missed the chance to make it 2-2. Harsh to criticise him for the penalty miss, but he would've expected to score. 6

Substitutes

Mason Mount (Henderson 79): Won England a late penalty. 7

Raheem Sterling (Saka 79): Didn't really do much after coming on. 6

Marcus Rashford (Foden 85): Had a chance to win the game with a late free-kick. N/A

Jack Grealish (Stones 90+8): Replaced the injured Stones. N/A
