Gareth Southgate says Jude Bellingham is a "catalyst" for England amid his attempts to build a team ready to consistently beat top nations like Italy.
The 20-year-old starred as two Harry Kane goals and a Marcus Rashford strike helped down the Azzurri at Wembley Stadium, despite Gianluca Scamacca's shock opener.
England secured qualification for Euro 2024, with two games to spare against Group C minnows Malta and North Macedonia in November.
Speaking about Bellingham, who was involved in England's first two goals and was named man of the match, Southgate said: "He’s been a catalyst. The way he carries himself and the way he plays on the field shows that.
"He’s had that since he walked through the door, frankly. The power in his play gives us something. He can wriggle out of tight situations. That belief, that willingness to engage with the crowd. They are rare traits.
"His mentality is incredible for his age. To have such an impact at such a young age, his maturity - we are very lucky to have him."
Southgate was pleased to have secured victories home and away against "top nation" Italy in 2023.
He hopes those performances can inspire England to match the feat in Germany next summer, adding: "I’m really pleased to win the game tonight.
"We know the games against the top nations are the ones we want to make a step forward with.
"We still want to win the games next month because it can affect seeding. I think it was probably the toughest qualifying group."
