Tino Livramento to miss World Cup as replacement named – and it’s not Trent Alexander-Arnold

  • Thomas Tuchel has a deadline of 9pm (BST) on Tuesday to replace Livramento in the 26-man squad, which is 24 hours prior to England’s first game of the tournament, and he has decided to call up Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
  • Chalobah is a somewhat surprising call over Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, as the Chelsea man primarily plays as a centre-back rather than covering the full-back positions.
  • For Livramento, 23, this is a significant personal blow as it was his first major tournament call-up, having already earned five caps for England.
