England set for first meeting with Ivory Coast in Wembley friendly for 2022 World Cup preparations

England will face the Ivory Coast at Wembley on March 29 as part of their World Cup preparations.

Gareth Southgate’s side also take on Switzerland three days earlier at the same venue.

It will be the first time the Three Lions have met the Ivory Coast at senior level – and the first game against non-European side since November 2018.

The two-time African champions are currently competing in the Africa Cup of Nations, where they beat Algeria 3-1 on Thursday.

Southgate has a long run up to the World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off in November, so has plenty of time to assess his squad ahead of that.

Meanwhile, England Under-21s’ European Championship qualifier against Andorra on March 25 will be staged at Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium.

Head coach Lee Carsley said: “Bournemouth is a great venue and this occasion will be an opportunity for all football fans from across the region to witness this country’s latest group of exciting young players in action at close quarters.”
