After helping England to victory in the Euro 2022 final last night veteran midfielder Jill Scott has apologised for the language she used during the match.
The 35-year-old was involved in a physical battle with Germany’s Sydney Lohmann during England’s historic 2-1 win at Wembley. The Manchester City midfield was caught shouting "f*** off you f***ing prick" on the BBC television coverage after being caught by a late challenge.
“I did apologise as I shouldn’t have swore like that,” said Scott talking to Radio 5 Live. “I did apologise to my grandma. I actually hate swearing as well but in the heat of the moment I felt like she (her German opponent) left one on me.

“She did actually say something to me, the camera didn’t get that. I did apologise as it shouldn’t have been the language I use. Hopefully people understand that I just wanted to win so badly and maybe in that moment emotions got the better of us.”
During the match BBC commentator Robyn Cowen apologised to anyone who had found the comment offensive, she said: "Apologies to any lip readers. Not sure you need to be one to figure out what Jill Scott thought of that."
Scott has won 161 caps during the last 16 years and is the longest serving player in the European Championship winning squad. She was the only survivor from England’s 6-2 defeat to Germany in Women’s Euro 2009 final in Finland.
The Women’s World Cup takes place in July next year in Australia and New Zealand with qualifying next on the agenda for England women. However, Scott is yet to decide her future for the Lionesses.
“I said I would give it absolutely everything to get to this tournament,” added Scott. “It’s taken a lot of hard work. I had a knee problem going into the tournament which I’ve had to manage and it has been difficult at times.
“It’s time to go away and have a holiday, I don’t want to make any decisions based on emotions. As soon as I know what is next I will let the media know.”
