England handed double injury boost for Germany clash as Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori make training return

England have been handed a defensive boost ahead of their clash with Germany tomorrow night after Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi both trained on Monday morning.

The centre-back pair missed Saturday’s Nations League opener against Hungary, with England falling to a listless 1-0 defeat in Budapest.

Manager Gareth Southgate was short on defensive options for the game at Puskas Arena, with Arsenal’s Ben White having already pulled out of the squad through injury. Conor Coady ended up starting in the heart of a back three, with Kyle Walker on his right and Harry Maguire to the left.

Both Guehi and Tomori have enjoyed excellent seasons at club level for Crystal Palace and AC Milan respectively and will be hoping to make a mark this month, if not tomorrow then against Italy on Saturday or Hungary next Tuesday.

James Justin, who came off injured during his senior England debut on Saturday, was the only player absent from training in Munich this morning. Instead, the Leicester full-back completed individual workouts indoors.

Southgate is expected to make changes to his team against Germany, with John Stones, Kalvin Phillips and Raheem Sterling all hoping to be involved from the start.

Sterling missed some training sessions last week through illness, but he has now recovered and was an unused substitute for the loss in Budapest.
