England fans open-mouthed as tables turn and Argentina lead

Argentina’s Lionel Messi celebrates their side’s second goal of the game with team-mates, scored by team-mate Lautaro Martinez during the World Cup 2026 semi-final match at the Atlanta Stadium (Nick Potts/PA) - (PA Wire)

England fans were open-mouthed as an added time goal from Lautaro Martinez put Argentina in the lead in Atlanta.

The joyous mood after Anthony Gordon put the Three Lions ahead in their World Cup semi-final just 10 minutes into the second half came crashing down as Enzo Fernandez equalised 85 minutes in and soured even further when Martinez put Argentina in the lead in the 92nd minute.

At Boxpark in Wembley, north London, supporters were dejected.

The most fans could muster as England launched their desperate response was a few claps of encouragement.
