England World Cup 2026 squad: Thomas Tuchel's latest squad for frustrating March internationals

England World Cup 2026 squad: Thomas Tuchel.

The England World Cup 2026 squad is beginning to take shape.

With the World Cup just around the corner, England were the first European nation to have qualified for Canada, the United States and Mexico – making them one of the favourites – and there isn't long left to impress manager Thomas Tuchel and earn a place in one of the most stacked squads in the tournament.

The latest squad had the surprise inclusion of James Garner, with the Everton man making his debut against Uruguay, while two Manchester United players were selected for the first time under Tuchel, in Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire.

Time is running out for stars to prove themselves to Tuchel, with a long list of stars who could well miss out on the final 26-man squad this summer – with several big names having missed consecutive camps.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Gallagher, Curtis Jones and Ivan Toney haven't featured since last summer, Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly last featured in October, and Ollie Watkins has now missed two squads in a row.

There was a recall for Dominic Calvert-Lewin following good form this season, while Dominic Solanke has made his first squad in a year.

Given that only a few stars look guaranteed for the squad, there will certainly be several shocks when Tuchel names his final selection next summer.

England manager: Thomas Tuchel

Former Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel is trying his hand at international football for the first time with a reputation for burning briefly and brightly at the highest level of the club game.

Tuchel's latest squad continued a general preference for trusted players over in-form options and a mammoth 35-man squad for the games against Uruguay and Japan didn't seem to get him any closer to finding a viable plan for the big games this summer.

Playing without a striker against Japan highlighted the importance of England's captain. An alternative will surely be required at the World Cup.

England's star player

Harry Kane

The England skipper finally got his hands on the first trophy of his career last season, helping Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title with a superb 26 goals and 10 assists in 31 league appearances.

Kane, who is ranked at no.1 in FourFourTwo's list of the best strikers in the world right now, has a massive part to play for England as he looks to tick off another major career milestone at next year's World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

With 112 caps and 78 goals to his name already for the Three Lions, and will be hoping to boost both tallies as Tuchel's side aim for their first World Cup triumph since 1966.
