England: Erik ten Hag drops Luke Shaw injury bombshell amid dig at Gareth Southgate tactics

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has claimed that Luke Shaw will not be fit to play for England until the Euro 2024 knockout stages.

The left-back was an injury doubt heading into the tournament and sat out the Three Lions' opening win over Serbia despite being named as a substitute.

England boss Gareth Southgate has been positive over Shaw's fitness, with the left-back taking part in training with the rest of the squad in the days leads up to the Group C clash.

Shaw has not played for United since February but Southgate has repeatedly suggested the defender could feature against Denmark on Thursday in England's second group game.

But Ten Hag, acting as a pundit for Dutch TV channel NOS said on Sunday night: "Luke Shaw will start playing once England get out of the group stages."

Ten Hag was less than impressed by England's nervy 1-0 win over Serbia to kickstart their Euros campaign, pointing the finger at the tactics of Southgate - a man tipped to replace him should be be sacked at United.

"It’s the vision of the manager," Ten Hag told NOS.

"England will take a 1-0 lead, then [Southgate] decides to start gambling with making his team compact and relying on moments for the remaining minutes of the game."
