Engineers’ Day is observed in India every year on September 15 to recognise the contribution of engineers and their role in shaping the country’s infrastructure, technology and development. The day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, one of India’s most renowned engineers and statesmen.
Also known as M. Visvesvaraya, he was born on September 15, 1861, in Muddenahalli, in present-day Karnataka. He played an important role in the development of irrigation systems, water supply projects and engineering infrastructure in India. His work and contributions earned him widespread recognition during his lifetime.
